1050: Said the Whale

1050 is a photo essay segment where we tell a story with photos (worth 1000 words) and captions of 50 words or fewer.

The Needle Vinyl Tavern provides a cozy, easy-going atmosphere for local music lovers and bar-hoppers alike. It is sure to become a staple in Edmonton’s local music scene for years to come.

The following are some photos from the Said the Whale concert at the Needle, which featured opening act Jesse and the Dandelions.

The dining lounge is decorated with collages consisting of some of the most iconic album covers of all time.

Considering my name, I feel a compelling urge to make some kind of biblical reference at some point (because I would hate to mull over the missed opportunity). But, to be honest, I would prefer not to; I’ll settle for Melville. (Photographed: Tyler Bancroft on guitar; Jaycelyn Brown on keyboard.) Jonah Angeles

Jesse and the Dandelions are a local indie rock outfit, consisting of members Jesse Northey, Dean Kheroufi, Connor Ellinger, and Lucas Chaisson.
(Left) Midway through Jesse and the Dandelions’ opening set, a fire alarm started blaring through the venue in metronomic pulses; quick on his feet, lead singer Northey defused the tension by strumming in time with the bleeps. (Right) Oh, you wanted to buy a drink but you’re afraid of missing the performance? Luckily, live-streaming HD television sets are a thing in the 21st century. What a fine life we are living!
