Valentine’s Day movies: The Princess Bride & The Love Witch
Metro Cinema
February 14th (7pm, 930pm)
Tickets: $9 (student)

The Metro Cinema is putting on two very different films about love this Valentine’s Day. First, the timeless magic of The Princess Bride is the perfect way to spend a romantic evening with your V-Day date, especially since everyone will be going batshit insane quoting along to it. Yeah, it’s a fucking quote-a-long The Princess Bride (get hyped). It’ll make for one hell of a fun time. Also, if you’ve never seen The Princess Bride — which, frankly, is inconceivable! — don’t worry, the quotes are on the screen for all you newbies. The Metro will also be showing The Love Witch, which is a send-up of pulp cinema about a woman who uses spells to make men fall in love with her. It’s garnered critical acclaim, and shouldn’t be missed for cinephiles or casual couples alike. If you’re expecting to get freaky in the theatre, this might not be the right place (go see Fifty Shades Darker you horndogs).

Silver Skate Festival: Meet Me at Lovers’ Lane
Hawrelak Park
February 10 – 11, 14 & 17 – 19, 2017
Tickets: $50
https://www.silverskatefestival.org/

What better way to spend Valentine’s Day than sipping hot chocolate with your partner, cheeks rosy, only lantern light shining on you as you wait for a sleigh ride through the white wonderland of Hawrelak Park? Well, maybe the warm interior of a romantic restaurant, but for only $50 bucks, this is way, way cheaper. The fifteen minute sleigh ride will give you enough time to breathe in the brisk, fresh air and set sights on the beauty of Edmonton’s river valley. Who knows, maybe it’ll be the perfect place to fall in love, or have a first kiss, OR EVEN get a little frisky?? … Sorry, I’ve still got Fifty Shades on the mind… Call me cupid or some shit, but your Valentine’s dates will be all over this.

A Spring Fling Ting: Valentines day Speed-Dating with a Twist

Tickets: $30

Besides having the rhymiest name of the bunch, this is also definitely the most energy consuming idea for Valentine’s Day. The Spring Fling Ting is described as “a fun, flirty and (very) light workout infused with speed-dating.” If you broke out in a sweat just reading that, I’d suggest swashing deodorant all over your body before this event. Essentially, 20 girls and 20 guys go through a mini date infused with a light workout. Hell, at least the folks in charge of this thing have made it way easier to multitask. Stick around after for drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and prizes to win (besides the prize of maybe falling in love! Awww). At least you won’t have to say “I slid in his/her DM” when someone asks you two how you first met. It’s slightly less embarrassing, in my opinion.
