SU Elections: Residence forum moved to next week

The Students’ Union elections residence forum, which was scheduled for tonight in Lister Centre, has been moved to March 6 with little warning.

According to an email obtained by The Gateway, candidates and their teams were notified that the residence forum hosted in Lister Centre would be moved to next week on February 21. However, the elections website schedule, Facebook page, and Twitter do not reflect the change. SU elections Chief Returning Officer Nadia Halabi said her office plans to send out an email today to let all residents know that the date has been changed. She also said they will be updating their social media and website later today.

“Ultimately we do have many other forums planned for students so we have the Myer Horowitz one where classes are literally cancelled, so it’s very accessible to all students,” she said.

Halabi said her office decided to move the residence forum to next week so that it won’t conflict with a dodgeball game in Lister, which she believed would lead to lower turnout at the event. Over reading week, she worked with Lister to see if they could move the forum to next week. She said she received confirmation of the change last week and then updated the calendar on the wall in the Students’ Union Building.

“It was short notice but we didn’t know until last minute either so we’re just doing our best to let people know and we do apologize if it was short notice,” she said.
