Brew Crew: Red Truck Midnight Run

Red Truck Beer Midnight Run

$15.99 / 6 bottles 355 mL (Liquor Depot)

Ever walk into a liquor store and decide to just try a beer that has the most ridiculous name or look?

Well, I decided to do just that. When I saw the Red Truck Company Beers on the shelf, I knew this was the one. Who would name their beer company after a children’s toy?

In any case, the Red Truck Midnight Run Beer pleasantly surprised me. I definitely did not expect the level of quality and taste that this beer has.

The beer pours out as a dark brown colour that reminds me of Guinness. It smells of roasted caramel throughout the drinking experience. Once you taste it, you will experience undertones of nuttiness, cocoa, and earthy hops. It is a tame taste that is well balanced, not overpowering or underwhelming.

Normally a darker ale has some heft to it preventing you from drinking too much as it fills you up. In contrast, Midnight Run is easy to drink. Almost too easy.

What surprised me is how active the carbonation was. Usually as you go about consuming a beer, the bubbles calm down over time. In the case of Midnight Run, it is frenzied and fizzy well after you pour it.

If you want to be pleasantly surprised and enjoy darker beers, I would recommend Red Truck’s Midnight Run. Despite the weird packaging and childish name, it proves to be a tasty beer.
