By the numbers: Uncontested races and number of female candidates from 1989 to 2019

In light of how three out of six races in this year’s Students’ Union elections were uncontested, and that only two out of 10 candidates this year were women, The Gateway looked through the past 30 years of SU elections to compare and contrast.

We only looked at serious candidates, so joke candidates are excluded from this count. Here are some highlights:

Adam Lachacz

Adam Lachacz was the Editor-in-Chief of The Gateway for 2020-21. Previously, he was the 2019-20 News Editor, 2018-19 Staff Reporter, and a senior volunteer contributor from 2016-18. He is a fifth-year student studying history and political science. Adam is addicted to the news, an aspiring sneakerhead, and loves a good cup of black coffee.
