Delhi 2 Dublin makes a difference at the Starlite

Though they don’t really fit in with any particular genre, Delhi 2 Dublin felt more than at home at the Starlite Room last Thursday night.

Delhi 2 Dublin is best defined as a pop fusion between bhangra music and Celtic folk tunes. The twang of the violin and the Indian influence of the dhol blended with the addition of heavy bass, giving the overall sound an EDM quality.

Their sound is made even more bizarre by the contrast of guitar, adding a new layer to the music each song. Their atyipcal approach to music has garnered a variety of fans and supporting acts from different backgrounds.

And that wasn’t the only thing that worked out for them. Delhi 2 Dublin was able to use the comparatively small area of the Starlite room to their advantage.

They interacted with the audience so much more than just dropping the city’s name every now and then. They took the time to care for the audience, like when they called out a fight so that it didn’t ruin the experience for everyone else. Yet they didn’t talk down to them; they came down and joined the audience on multiple occasions during the evening to involve them in the music, and getting them to play the drums.

But when it comes down to it, do they have a niche to play for? Do they have a definitive space in music they can call their own? No, not really. But they have the experience, the vigor, and the enthusiasm to be able to truly call themselves musicians, and that makes all the difference.
